In the german press releases of the Agrar Presseportal and the University of Koblenz-Landau of 07.05. and 08.05.2019 respectively, the visit of Daniela Schmitt, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, to the Landau campus was reported. For the kick-off event of the trinational SuMo-Rhine research project, the participants were welcomed by Gabriela Mühlstädt-Grimm, President of the Karlsruhe Vice Government, Dr. Frank Mentrup, Mayor of Karlsruhe, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth, Vice President for Innovation and International Affairs at KIT. Afterwards the contents of the project were presented by Prof. Dr. Wolf Fichtner. Afterwards, project partners from municipalities, research and companies presented innovative concepts and exemplary initiatives for sustainable mobility in the Upper Rhine region and offered a good basis for discussions and expansion of the various networks. Climate-friendly innovations for border traffic on the Upper Rhine: Strasbourg and Lörrach are the focus of the SuMo-Rhine project Last week, many thousands of French people protested against an eco-tax on diesel fuel with traffic blockades. People in rural areas in particular are often dependent on their cars when it comes to getting to work. At the same time, however, despite improved engines, growing car traffic is causing more and more climate-damaging CO2 emissions. The conflict shows that we need new mobility concepts. The reflexion meeting of the SuMo-Rhine project took place from November 28th to 29th 2018. The co-financing partners, DFIU, KIT-ECON, Universität of Freiburg, Universität of Koblenz- Landau, Université de Haute-Alsace, Université de Strasbourg and CNRS, created a work plan to build the framework of the indicators system.
