Expert Workshop “Communal Perspectives” of the Interreg-V Project SuMo-Rhine

On 13.11.19 the first participative workshop “Communal Perspectives” for the promotion of sustainable mobility in the Upper Rhine region took place in Freiburg. The workshop was aimed at urban and transport planners, sustainability and climate representatives as well as decision-makers and experts at local level from Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate. The event was introduced by an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Barbara Koch from the University of Freiburg and a lecture by PD. Dr. Patrick Jochem from KIT, in which the project relevance and the resulting potential were emphasised. SuMo-Rhine receives new project coordination

Herewith we would like to welcome Mrs. Nora Baumgartner as new project coordinator of the SuMo-Rhine project in our team. At the German-French Institute for Environmental Research (DFIU), which acts as the project management agency, she will be in charge of organising the planned workshops and coordinating the project. ADEUS becomes associate partner of the SuMo-Rhine project

The SuMo-Rhine project welcomes the Agency for Urban Development and Planning of the Strasbourg Metropolitan Area (ADEUS) as a new associated partner. With ADEUS, the project has gained an interdisciplinary institution with expertise in urban development, planning, settlement structure and housing, economic and social development, urban engineering, transport, landscape planning, environment, leisure, tourism, education, culture, communication and cross-border cooperation. We are looking forward to a good cooperation!

SuMo-Rhine receives eucor label

as a joint research project of the Universities of Koblenz-Landau, Haute-Alsace, Freiburg, Strasbourg and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the SuMo-Rhine project has been awarded the eucor label. The project supports municipalities on the Upper Rhine in establishing and expanding a cross-border sustainable transport system. On the one hand, the project thus promotes cooperation between universities and municipalities across existing state borders. On the other hand, the project with the municipalities also focuses on border regions and develops appropriate solutions. Find out more about the European Campus.

The event will take place on November 13, 2019 at the Haus zur Lieben Hand in the Löwenstraße 16 in Freiburg. The aim of this practical research project is to analyze regional transport systems and to evaluate them better in terms of their sustainability. In the course of this, a “network-based decision-making tool” with relevant sustainability indicators will be developed. EU enables cutting-edge research in the Upper Rhine region

In the german press releases of the Agrar Presseportal and the University of Koblenz-Landau of 07.05. and 08.05.2019 respectively, the visit of Daniela Schmitt, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, to the Landau campus was reported. Six current Interreg projects were presented, including SuMo-Rhine. SuMo-Rhine, kick-off event of the Interreg-V-Project Sustainable Mobility in the Upper Rhine Region 12 March 2019, Regierungspräsidium Karlsruhe

For the kick-off event of the trinational SuMo-Rhine research project, the participants were welcomed by Gabriela Mühlstädt-Grimm, President of the Karlsruhe Vice Government, Dr. Frank Mentrup, Mayor of Karlsruhe, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth, Vice President for Innovation and International Affairs at KIT. Afterwards the contents of the project were presented by Prof. Dr. Wolf Fichtner. Afterwards, project partners from municipalities, research and companies presented innovative concepts and exemplary initiatives for sustainable mobility in the Upper Rhine region and offered a good basis for discussions and expansion of the various networks. Climate-friendly innovations for border traffic on the Upper Rhine: Strasbourg and Lörrach are the focus of the SuMo-Rhine project Last week, many thousands of French people protested against an eco-tax on diesel fuel with traffic blockades. People in rural areas in particular are often dependent on their cars when it comes to getting to work. At the same time, however, despite improved engines, growing car traffic is causing more and more climate-damaging CO2 emissions. The conflict shows that we need new mobility concepts. First public colloquium in march 2019
